# Degen Dystopia

**Degen Dystopia** is a post-apocalyptic, browser-based [MMORPG](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_game) in which the players control their own in-game economy built on the Avalanche blockchain.
The game consists of an **Open-World** 2D map in which players can explore, *level up* their **NFT characters**, **collect resources** (**ERC-20**), and **craft items** (**ERC-721**).
Players can **engage in combat** with the inhabitants of the **Degen Dystopia** world (PvE) as well as other players (PvP) in real-time to collect and compete for rewards.
**Craftable gear** gives players an edge in combat and survival, and unlocks new abilities and areas of the map to explore.
**Resource collection** allows players to accumulate ingredients used for crafting, research, combat and other abilties. Crafting resources are implemented as ERC-20 tokens for liquid exchange on decentralized marketplaces and use in other DeFi protocols.
**Degen Dystopia** features **Open-PVP Zones**, where players can kill each other and *loot* each other’s pending rewards. Open-PVP areas are restricted to specific zones **rich in token rewards**, leaving plenty of room for casual players to play and earn while incentivizing competition and cooperation at the highest levels of play.
The continuous flow between **resource collection** -> **crafting** -> **combat** incentivizes players to specialize their builds, collaborate, and compete in real-time for wealth and territory in the persistent world of **Degen Dystopia**.
Innovation in the gaming industry has slowed to a crawl. The AAA game industry has become well-known for uninspired titles, [disappointing launches,](https://www.theguardian.com/games/2020/dec/18/cyberpunk-2077-how-2020s-biggest-video-game-launch-turned-into-a-shambles) and [releasing the same games year after year](http://www.original-gamer.com/index.php?action=article\&id=3147). Indie games have become infamous for [kickstarter rug-pulls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqM6zAGZ4dw) and early access games that [never get finished](https://www.theguardian.com/games/2019/jan/28/steam-early-access-first-wave-games-kenshi-valve). Gamers are filled with nostalgia for the times when amazing video games were plentiful and expectations for new releases were deservedly high. **Degen Dystopia** original and fun to the gaming community.
Likewise, the crypto & blockchain spaces are filled with disappointing projects that either under-deliver or downright scam people. The well-hyped world of "Crypto Gaming" & "GameFi" are no exception.
At the time of writing, few of the projects claiming to be "crypto games" have actually produced anything resembling a game. Most have are little more than gamified DeFi frontends. The few that do have "games" feel like they were made using Macromedia Flash, yet are somehow selling "plots of land" for 0.5 ETH and up.
It seems all anyone talks about these days in regards to crypto and gaming is how much of a "scam" it all is, or at best, how NFTs and crypto are "useless" and "unnecessary" in gaming. **Degen Dystopia** is here to change that.
It is time for teams to start delivering tangible products and stop the incessant shilling. The success of the project depends on the quality of the product, not on money raised or momentary hype.
The MMO genre provides the perfect opportunity to build player-run economies. Building sustainable player-run economies *is possible*, but it hinges on the ability to deliver a compelling experience to players. The project must evolve and grow with time, improving the experience for the players and continuing to innovate itse design.Games such as [Ultima Online](https://mobiledevmemo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/The-In-game-Economics-of-Ultima-Online.pdf), Runescape, and EVE Online have demonstrated that the right foundation can give rise to massive player-run economies which lasted for decades, with communities that are still alive today.
**Degen Dystopia** is a long-term project with a long-term vision. Development will grow steadily and sustainably, delivering real value progressively, avoiding the classic pump-and-dump mechanics that are all too common in the NFT/crypto space.
Through ongoing development, expansion of new features such as crafting, tournaments, betting, rentals system, minigames, partnerships, and much more, Degen Dystopia can continue to find innovate ways to drive revenue and sustain the ever-critical player rewards, attracting both the gamers who want to earn, and the earners who want to game.

Degen Dystopia Non-Fungible Tokens
Degen Dystopia features two types of NFTs: the core [**DEGEN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/degens) token and its accompanying [**DYSTOPIAN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/dystopians) token.
[**DEGEN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/degens)**s** are the playable characters & core NFT of Degen Dysopia. A single [**DEGEN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/degens) is the only token required to play the game. DEGENs have skills which can be leveled up by playing the game, increasing their power and market value.
[**DYSTOPIAN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/dystopians)**s** are NFTs that can be crafted (minted) using in-game resources collected by [**DEGEN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/degens)**s**. [**DYSTOPIAN**](/tokens-and-tokenomics/nfts-erc-721/dystopians)**s** serve as the minions of the DEGEN who owns them, providing players support in combat, crafting, resource collection, and other forms of in-game utility.

# DEGENs
Core Token of Degen Dystopia
The DEGEN is the core token of Degen Dystopia. It represents the playable character itself, with its own look, name, and game stats. It is a non-fungible token, and owning or renting one is *required* to play the game.
Every DEGEN token in the collection comes with its own unique randomly generated artwork.
Each DEGEN token has a set of stats and abilities that can be leveled up by playing the game, and are stored on-chain to allow easy transfer of DEGEN tokens between players and across Degen Dystopia servers. Leveled-up DEGEN tokens are more powerful in the Degen Dystopia game.
Every DEGEN token is associated with a unique animated character sprite which acts as the player’s in-game avatar.
### Rarity
Each DEGEN is of either COMMON, RARE, or MYTHIC rarity.
**NOTE:** Rarer DEGENS have rarer artwork. MYTHIC Degens also get special in-game cosmetic effects such as custom particle effects and lighting, allowing players to more easily identify the biggest badasses on the server :sunglasses::thumbsup:.
### Trading
DEGEN tokens will be tradeable on the Degen Dystopia NFT marketplace with a 2% sales tax which pays into the player rewards pool.
# DYSTOPIANs
"Pets"
DYSTOPIAN tokens are the primary craftable item in Degen Dystopia. Players can craft DYSTOPIANs using resources collected in the Degen Dystopia game, or trade them with other players. Players with builds specialized for crafting DYSTOPIANs will produce the most powerful and cost-effective crafts.
Each class of DYSTOPIAN has its own artwork, power level, crafting skill requirements (that the DEGEN must possess in order to craft), and token ingredients
DYSTOPIANs function like robot pets who will fight for the player, mine, craft, and provide other forms of utility such as healing, resurrection, and fast travel. (that the DEGEN owner must spend in order to craft the DYSTOPIAN NFT).
Each player can wield up to 4 DYSTOPIANs at a time on their DEGEN in-game.
DYSTOPIANs can become damaged in combat and require repairs. Repairs may require consuming game resources for certain types of DYSTOPIANs.
DYSTOPIANs level up as they are used, and can be eventually upgraded to more powerful versions for additional crafting costs.
### **Supply**
DYSTOPIAN supply is limited by the availability of tokens used to craft them. Initially, these tokens will consist of DDSCRAP and DDGOLD.
New classes of DYSTOPIANS can be introduced later which have custom recipes, including ERC20 tokens that are not native to Degen Dystopia. This can be used to generate player rewards in the form of any supported AVAX-based tokens.
Additional tokens and newer generations of DEGENs will dynamically alter the supply of DYSTOPIANs.
# ERC-20
Crafting and Trading Tokens
### Degen Dystopia ERC-20 Tokens
ERC20 tokens in Degen Dystopia are issued as player rewards and can be used to craft and trade in-game items.
When Degen Dystopia launches its *Phase 2* (see [Roadmap](/roadmap)), liquidity pools for its ERC20 tokens will be unlocked with total values equal to the total amount earned by players during Phase 1. This will allow the players to have control over liquidity and reduce the supply available to whales.
At the time of launch, Degen Dystopia features 2 ERC20 tokens for use in the game. These are [DDSCRAP](/tokens-and-tokenomics/erc-20/ddscrap) and [DDGOLD](/tokens-and-tokenomics/erc-20/ddgold). View their individual pages for more information about them.
# DDSCRAP
Crafting and Repair
### **About DDSCRAP** 
DDSCRAP is required in all crafting recipes, as well as to repair Dystopians.
DDSCRAP is earned by defeating Dystopians in combat or smelting them down (burning the token) for a refund of the crafting ingredients.
DDSCRAP that is spent on repairs is refunded to the game treasury to sustain player rewards.
### Supply
The DDSCRAP token is a fungible token with a variable supply and lots of burn mechanics.
As Degen Dystopia evolves, DDSCRAP will deflationary mechanics, including being used crafting & repairing DYSTOPIANs, houses,
Initially, DDSCRAP will begin with 0 circulating supply. The only way to obtain DDSCRAP will be to play Degen Dystopia with a DEGEN and earn by killing Degens.
In Phase 2 of the Degen Dystopia roadmap, liquidity pools will be unlocked allowing players and speculators to trade DDSCRAP on the open market.
# DDGOLD
Mining, staking, and more crafting
### **About DDGOLD** 
DDGOLD is acquired in Degen Dystopia by mining. Mining is a semi-passive activity players can do in Degen Dystopia inside of mines and caves.
DDGOLD is used to craft and upgrade more powerful Dystopians.
DDGOLD will be stakeable in vaults which pay out AVAX over time in proportion to Degen Dystopia’s revenue.
### Supply
The DDGOLD token is a fungible token with a fixed supply hard cap.
Initially, DDGOLD will begin with 0 circulating supply. The only way to obtain DDGOLD will be to play Degen Dystopia with a DEGEN and earn by using the DEGEN's mining ability. Mining skill can be buffed by arming your DEGEN with certain DYSTOPIANs.
In Phase 2 of the Degen Dystopia roadmap, liquidity pools will be unlocked allowing players and speculators to trade DDGOLD on the open market.
Every DEGEN starts the game with 1 DDGOLD in their inventory.
### Future Plans
As Degen Dystopia moves towards a DAO governance model, it is proposed that DDGOLD will act as the game’s governance token.

# Getting Started (Testnet)
How to get started playing the Degen Dystopia Open Alpha on Testnet
It is highly recommended that you join the [Degen Dystopia Discord Server](https://discord.gg/pQc9xwczW7) for live support getting the game running for the first time.
### 0. Installing a wallet
This tutorial will assume you have MetaMask already installed.
If you don't have MetaMask installed (or some other Ethereum-compatible wallet) head over to and install it in your browser or device.
Once it is installed, you should be able to see the MetaMask icon among your browser's extensions:
Click the icon to see your wallet's contents and address:
### 1. Funding your wallet
Once you play on the Testnet, first you will need to set up a wallet and fund it with some AVAX from the Testnet faucet.
First let's open up our wallet in MetaMask:
Now let's copy out our wallet's address:
Now head over to . You should see the front-end for the Avalanche Testnet Faucet.
Paste your wallet address in the form, fill out the captcha, and click REQUEST 10 AVAX:
The faucet should report a success:
### 2. Connecting to the game for the first time
Now that our wallet has some funds, we're ready to play! Head over to .
Once the game loads, it will ask you to add the Avalanche Testnet network to MetaMask. Click approve:
The game will then ask you to connect your wallet:
Select the wallet which has the Testnet funds and click Next -> Connect:
Once our wallet is connected to the site, we no longer have to repeat this process.
### 3. Mint your first DEGEN
Next you will see a login screen. Click the button to log in.
Your signature will be requested in order to prove you are the owner of the connected wallet:
Once you have signed in, you will see the character select screen. If this is your first time playing, you will see no playable characters:
Click `mint()` to create a playable Degen. You will be prompted to name it:
You will then be prompted to approve the minting transaction by MetaMask. Click approve to mint a new DEGEN token:
Minting may take several seconds to confirm. When the transaction is successful, the page will refresh and you will be prompted to log in again.
Once you have logged in again, you will see your newly minted DEGEN. you can mint another DEGEN if you wish, or you can get right into the game.
### 4. Enter the world with your DEGEN
After logging in, simply select the DEGEN you wish to play with, then click the `play()` button:
If everything worked correctly, you'll see your Degen on the map, ready to explore!

# Gameplay Basics
Basic overview of controls, commands, and play mechanics.
### Chat
Chat with other players (and issue commands to NPCs) by pressing ENTER.
### Character Stats
Your Degen has a number of Stats and Skills which determine your Degen's build and base level.
You can press "T" to view your character's stat page:
The stat page shows your stats, skills, and current inventory.
Your character's stats and skills can be permanently increased by using various skills. The lower the skill level is, the easier it is to raise, but the less effective it is. Skills start at 0% but have a maximum cap of 100%.
Every Degen has a maximum skill cap of 500%. It is recommended that players choose 5 skills to max at 100% as their "build", but this is of course flexible. The player community should discover on its own the optimal builds for the styles of play they wish to use.
### Saving your Character
As the Degen Dystopia server stores all Degen Data on-chain, **you are responsible for saving your own Degen's stats to the blockchain**. This is required in order to sell your Degen, as well as redeem rewards from the game
Press 'O' to open the Options dialog and save your character:
You be prompted to approve the transaction to save your Degen.
### Combat (Basics)
You can attack any of NPCs you see walking around the wasteland (though this might result in your swift death).
To engage in combat, click the `war mode()` button, or press **C**. You will see the cursor now with a sword, indicating that you are in war mode.
Once in war mode, your cursor will highlight any character you hover over. Click the character to attack!
Actively attacking a target will raise your relevant combat skills. Unarmed attacks will raise your power and accuracy, which in turn increase your damage and chance to hit.
Once you have defeated an enemy, some token rewards may drop on the ground. Click them to pick them up before anyone else!
You will see the balance of tokens in the loot added to your DEGEN's inventory.
### Combat (PvP)
You attack other players the same way you attack NPCs in open-PVP zones.

### Death & Resurrection
When you die, 50% of all the unclaimed tokens in your inventory will drop at your feet. These can be looted by an ally or an enemy player, so watch out!
When you die, your character will turn into a Ghost and you will be unable to do anything other than move.
Make your way to a `wandering healer`, and speak the phrase "res me" to get resurrected back to life
Your health will take some time to regenerate on its own.
### Withdrawing Tokens from the game
You can see any unclaimed rewards you have in your character's inventory:
You will need to explore the game to find a Bank Vault, where you can cash out from your in-game inventory to your wallet on-chain:
Your character must be saved in order to withdraw. See above for saving your character.
Once you have saved, simply say the word "bank" next to the vault warden:
The first time you do this process, you will not see the tokens in your wallet. You can say `/addtoken` to add the DD tokens to your wallet. You will need to do this once each for both SCRAP and GOLD:
